CLOSED September 2017. After a fabulous 7 1/2 years run, Off-Broadway at St Lukes Theatre AND the Actors Temple Theatre, the AIRMAN of Tuskegee have moved on. Taking it on the road. The magic will continue!
“Black Angels Over Tuskegee” – the international hit stage play that amazed St. Luke’s Theatre audiences, returned to St. Lukes Theatre on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 1 pm, where it opened Off-Broadway on Jan. 29, 2010, with it’s historical journey about the Tuskegee Airmen.

 officially opened Feb. 15, 2010, ending its run at St. Luke’s Theatre on May 31, 2010 before transferring to the Actors Temple Theater on June 5, 2010, where “Black Angels Over Tuskegee”  continued its Off-Broadway run through November 15, 2014.

 “We are  super excited to return to our roots at St. Luke’s Theatre.”says writer director Layon Gray. The play was recently inducted into the New York Public Library of Performing Arts. “Black Angels Over Tuskegee” will benefit scholars and researchers for years to come and we are grateful.” says curator Annemarie van Roessel.

This captivating all-male cast delivers a powerful performance that will entertain, inspire and inform as audiences discover the story that provoked a monumental change in American history

Black Angels Over Tuskegee is the story of the Tuskegee Airmen told in narrative of six men embarking upon a journey to become pilots in the United States Army Air Forces. The play explores their collective struggle with Jim Crow, their intelligence, patriotism, dreams of an inclusive fair society, and brotherhood. The play goes beyond the headlines of the popular stories of the Tuskegee Airmen and exposes the men who exhibited the courage to excel, in spite of all the overwhelming odds against them.
